Lookin', lookin' up Trying not to worry 'bout the setting sun Shadows are casting large Leaving me to doubt there's anyone in charge Of making sure no one gets lost tonight I might as well just run right out of sight But the whole world will call your bluff When everybody's crazy 'bout the one you love A nation of shiny things Hesitant to let the chimes of freedom ring I shake 'em so hard 'til they hit the ground Everybody's wondering, "What's that sound? It's something I ain't felt or heard before But I don't like this threatening of my core" They'll fight it with sweat and blood When everybody's crazy 'bout the one you love Father, full of grace Ever present smile gleaming on his face But frankly, he's unimpressed And wondering who the hell is cleaning up this mess I raised my hand, it shimmered like a prize But clearly not as much as in his eyes One might say it's never quite enough When everybody's crazy 'bout the one you love Pull up, the coast is clear Didn't need a single map to get me here But really, I must confess I ain't too sure it's possible in happiness There's enough to drag and keep me down So I'll be sure to head back into town You gotta get your fix, gotta get your stuff Everybody's crazy 'bout the one you love

Can I get away with it? I'd like to know I feel it's important to my future So here I go So tell me little one, do you like this melody? Does it make you want to dance, give yourself up to the beat? I hope that's what it's doing 'cause there's nothing else to it But it doesn't matter, come on and sing with me! Da da da da… Can I get away with it? I hope I do But I'm pretty sure I'll feel crooked And dirty, too But oh well, whatever! I'm a committed man And don't you all want to be a part Of the master plan? Maybe it's been done better, I ain't keeping score But one thing we can agree on is, it's all been done before Maybe it don't fit me, this whole trying to be witty thing But if you don't notice, come on and sing with me! Da da da da… Can I get away with it? Time will tell And I'll understand any anger If it actually sells You can cast me out, label me a hypocrite And make a case that I should just give up right now and quit But it's just a bit of fun, yeah, it's just a little fun Don't you want to have some fun? Yeah, let's have a little fun! Yeah! Da da da da...

Could have left this letter at the breaking shore And watched it float away Instead, I put it up on the list of things Not to do today All the island folk like to make their jokes ‘Bout the coming miracle They got graveyard smiles for a million miles That are inconceivable It’s okay, I don’t mind I was done like leather in a stiff cold breeze When I saw your silhouette But then you stole the flame from me callously And lit your cigarette I was not too pleased, but I felt released From a mystifying chain And I wish I kept that kick in my step And the balance in my veins As it stands, it’s cast aside And as for you, you’re alright This will be the one that kills me slowly Softly and sure This will be the one that some spend All their lives waiting for I woke with a hunger to retaliate Didn’t think you’d understand ‘Cause spraying the graffiti on the caution sign Didn’t do just what I planned So I raced that train in my dying Escape While the gravel nicked the frame And I had no doubt there were easy ways out Where I could protect my name But I swore this was war I took on this incredible load To fall through every floor I wanted something more Chorus I’m getting pretty tired of drawing With pastel teenaged thoughts and dreams The people want a wide spread waiting for them When they visit the museums So I’ll sculpt some mess of a later success Where the sights are so serene But I’ll drop my guard and admit that it’s hard Not to fear the in betweens So for now, I’ve got this song Better make sure it belongs Chorus x2

And in the corner where the moonlight fails to shine Your golden skin glows But when the cracks let in the winds of yesterday The contempt still shows And I just keep on thinkin' of dreams without a reason But my ship is always sinking And I can't go to sleep when your poison covered words Are at the bottom of the sink So when should I expect to see a permanent passion With the same type of feeling in every third kiss to me When should I expect to see a change in your fashion? 'Cause I wake up in the morning and I'm halfway to history And when the summer devils pose as winter angels You follow them down So when the snow you packed with truth has all been melted I fight to not drown Pre-chorus Chorus And if this seems like too much, think of it as a catch up For all the times I never could say anything at all And if I'm playing too strong, you know that it's been so long Since I have felt I could do anything at all Chorus And I'm halfway to history

New Mischief 08:03
Well I ain't had a drop but I'm feeling kinda messed up Ain't seen a lot but I'm feeling like I've seen too much And I know I'm self aware but it doesn't mean I'm not true I ain't playing 'cause I'm really just a natural fool But I've seen where broken spirits go When they throw themselves to starving crows They try to catch the same disease That the last untainted hero breathes And I bet you'll want a place to hide When the medicine man corrupts your pride You know we've got to get inside Before the raining clouds of guilt destroy our clothes Well I'm all revved up, dragged down by hesitation I am a plague, the creator of my own frustration And the words sound ugly but the fantasy is so fine So do I cave, say it's everybody's fault but mine? I'm only saying I don't know what to say about it Do you hear what I say? Don't tell me that there ain't no other way about it You will surely pay Chorus If the answer did lie in a fortune cookie unread Then I would know that it isn't just all in my head Like a sense of finality that might not exist if We didn't mark the beginnings of a new mischief
6.
You're kissing my neck It's one of those things I’ve kind of come to expect That's not to say that I don't like it It's just right now it's a little less that comforting Maybe comfort's the only thing we desire But we search so much for things we only want When we don't know what we require I begin to touch It's one of those things I’ve always dreamt of so much I know that feeling will never truly disappear But there's definitely something missing here And I want to give you what I think you deserve Between my brain and my fingers And thoughts that still linger I don't know if I got the nerves We lay side by side It's one of those things I always enviously eyed If the world came to a crashing halt right now I could at least shrug and say I tried I don't believe I've reached my natural end So if we should have some great kind of reawakening I just might crawl back again
7.
I bought the book when someone said That failure to would make me seem unjust So I took a marker and circled those I thought of then in friendship and in lust It seems the shelf it sits on now Will soon collapse from the weight of piling dust 'Cause the bordered faces have been replaced By a group of where I can't place any trust There's a woman on my mind Who, up until some point, I never could quite touch And when the moment came It seemed so delicate, should have treated it as such And I thank all those who rescued me From ignorance, you really came through in the clutch But the bordered faces upon her walls Are laughing still, it seems a bit too much Good things come to those who wait But when does it all become too late? Maybe I should sell my soul And find a home down in a hole Or maybe I should stick to what I know When I heard the symphony I was quick to throw my praise into the ring In pledging my allegiance to the orchestra I must have upset the king 'Cause I found myself regretting taking notes From those who offered everything When the bordered faces had gained their place On a narrow road with a knack for suffering Chorus There's a horde of different memories That haunt my dreams on any given night They taunt me with their tales of desperation And their broken passion lights But the bordered faces I confide in Tell me still it's worth it just to fight 'Cause as they've etched into the stone "Don't worry babe, it's going to be alright"
8.
And it seems like the little boy ain't happy like he used to be He says, "Don't you know all about what that little girl trying to do to me? You know she's got me in a hold" But it seems like the little girl don't really want nothing to do with him Because she ain't too sure if the battered, bruised look will do good again And she wants to keep that in control A meeting under moonlight in clarity's name And though the trees shook and the cold wind moaned The fire remained She said, "I could lie with you forever And never raise a question if you never raise your hand" He said, "I could lie to you forever I think that's a better plan" And it seems like the little boy ain't happy like he used to be Yeah, it burns to see that little girl smiling big and living free

Flash of two summers on a cool spring night In a den where the kids sculpted magic Everybody yearns for the other spring's end Where it's not so endearingly tragic The self-appointed king sings of stings and Tennessee Joes He claims to rise above the stumbling path that the other half knows But his extended hand speaks much more than a smile to me I wonder how it plans to reach the part you never see It's like an athlete's mind ravaged with poisonous dread It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead Greasy hair dripping from a false warm shield On a morning so dreamingly moving Phonograph fathers in a stone son age With a theory that hardly needs proving The hero has a lawn filled with weeds and tricycle wheels A cavalcade of soul penetrates at the room where he kneels The message once so real now blends in with predictable trees It's glory in a race to fade in the part you never see It's like a lone wolf mother killing the cubs that she bred It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead Seven years running on the cornerstone hope That the gang wouldn't crumble or falter Treasure box flooding with miraculous fear And contempt for the minds never altered The organizer folds, trips on traps that he used to avoid He searches for the names of captains passed and the tricks they employed The smoke and mirror robe is shrouded now in a great irony It won't be long until he's one with the part you never see It's like a God in denial draining the waters we tread It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead Violent health measures cut reminders in two On the day after meeting the outcome Rally cries ringing from the skeleton claim That you don't lose, you win some, you doubt some The señorita dreams of one day feeding the curious minds Her methods so misplaced would not survive past the Mexico line So now I'm left concerned about the dandruff that covers my knees I hope to stare so long to fathom the part you never see It's like a proud sun child dancing in moonlight instead It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead
10.
I know sometimes it seems like I Am a little on edge and a little bit paranoid But I swear that I'm okay It's just that I get scared sometimes And I'm never too sure what the world has got in store So won't you stand by me? 'Cause you know what you mean Yes, you know what you mean Yes, you know what you mean to me I'll never find another girl Who does half the things you do Yes, you know what you mean to me I know sometimes it seems like I Never quite think through all the words I end up saying And I guess that might be true It's just that I get fooled sometimes Into thinking I better raise my voice for something So I'll raise it just for you Chorus x3

Bilgewater 03:32
It don’t matter if the cold wind blows I’m gonna wind up working in the thick of it Sunshine through the rain and snow There’s an oily brine bilgewater baptism waiting below That’s just the waves slamming ‘gainst the topsides’ sound Don’t let the ever rolling motion go and get you down Don’t let it shake your steady thread cutting hand Keep stealing ribbons from the steel and giving hell to every halyard you can In spite of all the wherewithal To fight it all, I will face it all In spite of all the wherewithal To fight it all, I’ll embrace it all When every day is like a war between the will to go on And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun Turn your head toward the storm that’s surely coming along If the sun was always shining and our load always light We’d be shaking like a leaf with every God given night We’d break under the weight of any pressure that was ever applied Will you be ready when the straw boss calls? He’s got an ever loving bone to pick with one and all Don’t let his condescension get you down Just have the strength to know you’re wrong and when you’re right, the strength to stand your ground Chorus When every day is like a war You find no strength from the usual source There’s no peace, there’s no rest Your fortitude is feeling put to the test When every day is like a war between the will to go on And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun Turn your head toward the storm that’s surely coming along If the sun was always shining and our load always light We’d be shaking like a leaf with every God given night We’d break under the weight of any pain that ever came in this life
12.
Ice on the windows, driving down along the highway Dirt from the back porch ain't gonna get swept out today But if we could pretend for just one night I'm sure that we could be invincible And if we could learn to tame our hunger Well maybe next time, maybe next time Maybe next time, we can get things right Marks on the ceiling where potential used to jump around Bedsheets below them powerless to help distill the sound But the shadow dancing in the shade Fought against the stampede raging on And if we could only snap out of the weeping truth Well maybe next time, maybe next time Maybe next time, we can get things right If the moon could ever hide it's craters from the world And look so perfect in that sea of stars I'd pray to God and say, "You took away the charm" A hypocrite who doesn't see his scars ‘Cross roads and rivers, evolution has to pay a price Harsh words lamented, call the cops in, listen to your rights But I never meant to fuel the fire And for fourteen years, it's never threatened to go out And the walls are stained with every ignorant mistake Well maybe next time, maybe next time Maybe next time, we can get things right
