lyrics

Flash of two summers on a cool spring night
In a den where the kids sculpted magic
Everybody yearns for the other spring's end
Where it's not so endearingly tragic
The self-appointed king sings of stings and Tennessee Joes
He claims to rise above the stumbling path that the other half knows
But his extended hand speaks much more than a smile to me
I wonder how it plans to reach the part you never see
It's like an athlete's mind ravaged with poisonous dread
It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead

Greasy hair dripping from a false warm shield
On a morning so dreamingly moving
Phonograph fathers in a stone son age
With a theory that hardly needs proving
The hero has a lawn filled with weeds and tricycle wheels
A cavalcade of soul penetrates at the room where he kneels
The message once so real now blends in with predictable trees
It's glory in a race to fade in the part you never see
It's like a lone wolf mother killing the cubs that she bred
It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead

Seven years running on the cornerstone hope
That the gang wouldn't crumble or falter
Treasure box flooding with miraculous fear
And contempt for the minds never altered
The organizer folds, trips on traps that he used to avoid
He searches for the names of captains passed and the tricks they employed
The smoke and mirror robe is shrouded now in a great irony
It won't be long until he's one with the part you never see
It's like a God in denial draining the waters we tread
It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead

Violent health measures cut reminders in two
On the day after meeting the outcome
Rally cries ringing from the skeleton claim
That you don't lose, you win some, you doubt some
The señorita dreams of one day feeding the curious minds
Her methods so misplaced would not survive past the Mexico line
So now I'm left concerned about the dandruff that covers my knees
I hope to stare so long to fathom the part you never see
It's like a proud sun child dancing in moonlight instead
It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead
It's like two teenagers waiting to learn if they're dead
